Object & Deliverables

The goal of this project was to identify areas suitable for reforestation after the Dogrib Fire of 2001. This built on a previous project (SUNPIN-01-053), which identified unstocked strata suited for silvicultural activities to promote reforestation of the fire disturbed area. Suitable areas were determined to contain greater than 30 percent exposed mineral soil with a stocking assessment of 50 percent or less. The project identified approximately 1800 hectares of eligible area for seeding treatment.

 

Final Report

In April 2004, Sundre Forest Products Ltd. conducted aerial seeding operations for the selected areas using a helicopter with a cyclonic dispersal air seeder during conditions that minimized the dispersal of seed outside the appropriate zones. The project was successful in delivering viable seed onto viable seedbeds during the optimal seeding window.
