Programs called Networks of Centres of Excellence are funded by The Federal Government. The University of Alberta was awarded one of these programs in Sustainable Forest Management and their approach to the program was to conduct multi-disciplinary integrated research on the Boreal Forest. Funding was requested for this project to support a single study entitled, “Assessing the economic impacts of a natural disturbance forest management regime”. The study developed tools to assess the economic impact of moving to a natural disturbance forest management regime with particular emphasis on the impact on recreation and wildlife values. The models will be used to aid in education, extension, and public input gathering. This project funded the third year and WEYDV-02-009 funded the first two years.
