The primary purpose of this Project is the recovery of abandoned land use dispositions not supporting coniferous tree growth.
Objectives included the assessment and subsequent reforestation of surface land dispositions (wellsites, roadways, etc.) developed/reclaimed prior to January 14th, 1997 in the Elk River Area of southwestern Alberta.
Over the period of 1999 to 2000 inclusive, fifty-three land use dispositions were identified, assessed, site prepared and planted to conifer. In total, approximately 107,000 pine and spruce seedlings were planted over 61.4 hectares. Documentation of this work has been recorded in a Silvicultural data base for subsequent tracking and follow-up treatment
