The intent of this project was to expedite understory establishment of white spruce within an assortment of aspen stands, through planting, to promote development of a second crop in the understory of the existing deciduous stand. The long-term objective was to operationalize understory planting in stands, ecologically and economically, and thereby realize an increase to the mean annual increment of fibre on these sites. Continued monitoring of these sites will extend over the next 20 years to assess success. This project was a continuation of work done in 1997 under project WEYDV-020-26. The final report was submitted by Dave Kent entitled, “Understory Planting”, December 1999.
