The overall purpose and principal objective of this Project was to thin and clean approximately 100 hectares of sixteen year old fire origin pine stands in the Wadlin Lake area of northwestern Alberta.
Over the late Fall of 2001, ten blocks/22.19 hectares of young pine – aspen stands were mechanically thinned and cleaned by a contract crew from the Tall Cree First Nation. Combined densities were reduced from an average of 12,359 to 2,516 stems per hectare. The direct tending costs amounted to $814.00 per hectare.
A late start and winter snow levels hampered progress.
