Project Code: | BRL-01-055 |
Program: | FRIP |
Sponsor: | Blue Ridge Lumber |
Object & Deliverables
The primary objective of this project is to:
– Quantify the effects of various thinning strategies on yield and wood quality and use this information to recommend optimum deployment of thinning resources in terms of where, when and how to thin.
Secondary objectives include but are not limited to:
– Supporting growth and yield plots in justifying AAC adjustments to regulators.
– Involving Forest Technology students and staff, as appropriate, in order to transfer state-of
the-art understanding of thinning.
Provide data to inform provincial Growth and Yield Projection System (GYPSY), particularly with regard to forecasting thinning yields.
Final Report
The project facilitated the installation of 25 research trial sites, covering a wide range of pre-commercial thinning prescriptions. Detailed tree measurements were completed in each sub-plot , both prior to and immediately after thinning.
