Water crossing assessments were done in two distinct areas – Grande Prairie FMA and Pembina Operations, which encompasses Drayton Valley and Edson FMA’s. On the Grande Prairie FMA, the scope of the project was limited to culvert crossings on the companies’ permanent LOC roads. Data was collected on 1216 culvert crossings on the Grande Prairie FMA. The data included information on fish passage, water flow, and sediment. The primary problem associated with the culverts was erosion – of the 1216 inspected, 134 were noted as having issues. In the Pembina Operations, both culverts and bridges were monitored. Data was collected on 298 crossings with nine high risk crossings identified. The final report is entitled “WEYDV-02-168 – Water Crossing Assessment and Monitoring Program – Technical report — September 2009”, submitted by Rick Watson.
