Object & Deliverables
The primary objective of this program was to review 345 pre-1991 harvested blocks and assess tree survival, general health, competition levels, and potential requirements for future silviculture treatments. This objective was achieved with the completion of several sub-objectives:
- Stratification of blocks into areas of common vegetation types.
- Estimation of the number of stems per hectare by species and height class.
- Quantification of the level of competition within each stratum.
- Assessment of any potential insect or disease problems.
- Recommendations about future silvicultural treatments.
Sampling procedures involved a mixture of aerial and ground work. Used together, these two methods proved to be fast, efficient, and reliable. No other forest resources were adversely affected by this project.
Final Report
The results of this project are contained in a document entitled “FRIAA Final Report – Sunpine Forest Products Ltd. – Stocking & Silvicultural Assessments on “PR91 SR” Blocks,” dated July 1999.
