The objective of this Project was to preserve the softwood land base by controlling competing vegetation which in turn will improve the growth and ensure survival of the coniferous crop trees. This will be accomplished with some form of stand tending (brush saw, girdling) on pre-1991 cutovers that were regenerated to softwood and are now being converted to a mixedwood stand through competition from aspen and other species. A total of 2334 hectares were tended.
