Object & Deliverables

This project developed a quantitative, consistent, and replicable method, using existing operational technology, for prioritizing maintenance and restoration of existing roads and trails that can be applied anywhere in Alberta and that can be incorporated into forest management planning, sub-regional integrated land management plans, and habitat recovery strategies.

The aim of this project is to conform to the Alberta Legislature’s motion to “conserve and manage public lands in Alberta’s headwater regions to optimize downstream water security for future generations of Albertans”.

Final Reports

Three reports were produced for Bow and Oldman, Upper Saskatchewan and Red Deer, Athabasca and Peace Rivers. This provided an analysis of unpaved road erosion and sediment delivery.

Results from the new GIS based model can be incorporated in Alberta Forest Management planning, sub-regional integrated land management plans, and habitat recovery strategies moving forward.
