Object & Deliverables
The scope of the project was to analyse and summarize the available caribou location information as it corresponded to vegetation information and disturbance in the Little Smoky and A La Peche caribou ranges. The information generated from this analysis was used to assist management planning by defining areas of high use, potential calving areas and caribou avoidance/use around disturbed areas.
Final Report
The final report was prepared by Silvacom March 2010 and submitted by ANC.
Results showed caribou preferred black spruce and pine forests and occasionally non-forested areas. They avoided white spruce, deciduous and mixed forest areas. They preferred moderate age and old forest greater than 70 years. They avoided roads, but not seismic lines.
