Object & Deliverables
MPB is a relatively new phenomenon faced by the forest sector in Alberta, and expertise and awareness are lacking. A general elevation in awareness and understanding of the potential gravity of the situation is required if forest managers in Alberta are to be expected to act in a timely and effective manner. It is also apparent that if Alberta is going to be effective at managing the potential devastation of a MPB infestation, management practices need to be evaluated and implemented immediately.
Final Report
This project both informed and educated ANC staff on the topics of MPB biology and the epidemic. The project was successful in developing a MPB management plan that evaluates the MPB susceptibility for the FMA and derive a management approach aimed at reducing risk. Also, the project established a communication framework for ANC to use in communicating with ANC staff, the public, ASRD and other operators.
