This Project’s aim was to remove the deciduous competition surrounding the conifer crop trees and assist them to achieve/maintain free-to-grow status.
Objectives included density reduction of competing vegetation; release of the conifer crop trees; and the creation of an environment in which the crop trees can maintain a free growing status.
Throughout the late Spring and Summer of 2001, a relatively inexperienced local contractor manual cleaned and tended about 107 hectares of previously reforested cutblocks. The average tending cost amounted to $841 per hectare.
