The intent of the project was to expedite the understory establishment of white spruce within an assortment of deciduous stands, through planting, to promote development of a second crop. This project utilized the Drayton Valley and Edson FMA’s. The results of the project indicated that 18,450 white spruce seedlings were planted, which was significantly less then anticipated. Seedlings ordered for the understory planting were diverted for prompt reforestation efforts following the Chip Lake Fire, which explains the reduction in planting. The final report was submitted by Dave Kent, entitled “Final Report – Understory Planting 1998”, October 1998.
