Object & Deliverables

The objectives of the Forest Genetics Alberta Association (FGAA) are:

  1. To carry out and manage forest genetics and tree improvement projects on behalf of the members to enhance growth, yield, timber quality and climatic/pest hardiness of the future forest, as well as the conservation of forest genetic resources and improved seed production;
  2. To encourage, facilitate and promote cooperative project development and management amongst the membership and other organizations or institutions with similar interests;
  3. To promote long-term continuity, quality control and successful completion of projects relating to forest genetics and tree improvement undertaken by the membership;
  4. To foster applied research to increase the knowledge base and technology development for practice tree improvement, forest genetic resources conservation and improved seed production in Alberta;
  5. To advance and facilitate knowledge sharing and technology transfer to maintain high quality tree improvement programs amongst the membership in collaboration with neighbouring provinces and other appropriate scientific organizations;
  6. To enter into any arrangements with any authorities, industry participants, or otherwise which are conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the Society or any of them, and to obtain form such authority any rights, privileges and concessions which the Society determines is desirable to carry out, to exercise and comply with any such arrangements, rights, privileges and concessions;
  7. To establish and collect fees, charges, levies or assessments to further the objectives of the Society;
  8. To receive, see, manage, invest, lease, mortgage, dispose or otherwise deal with property of the Society; and
  9. To act in accordance with these objectives insofar as such action is not inconsistent with and does not alter, obligations created by existing tenure, regulatory or legislative requirements.

 

Final Report

As of 2012 there are four programs with three species under FGAA cooperative direction. Findings of this project and results are contained in FGAAs’ 2012 Annual Report.
