Object & Deliverables
The primary objective of this project, a continuation of a prior project, was to develop a process that could be used to reduce the risk of damaging historical resources on the Sunpine Forest Management Area (FMA), which was located along the forested foothills and western plains of Central Alberta.
The previous project identified key sites and areas; however, since its completion the FMA expanded in size, and the additional areas required assessment for inclusion in the databases and GIS layer. The current project aimed to complete this additional work as well as test/ground truth the model through archival, report, and library research in Calgary and Edmonton; mapping of all known sites; updating of the Sunpine FMA known site database with information concerning additional areas; and conducting air photo and biophysical reviews of additional areas of the Sunpine FMA to determine and map archeologically sensitive areas and potentially significant site locations on orthophotos of additional areas within the FMA.
