Object & Deliverables
Three primary objectives of the project were:
- to establish permanent plots to allow long-term investigation of effects of logging on terrestrial lichens;
- to document immediate effects of logging on terrestrial lichens; and
- to compare effects of timing of harvest and site preparation (summer vs. winter logging and leave for natural regeneration vs. disk trenching, respectively) on existing terrestrial lichens and lichen recovery.
Final Report
Findings from this study will contribute to the development of timber harvesting strategies that can enhance lichen abundance and distribution on caribou winter ranges within the WEYGP FMA. Such strategies may include site-specific prescriptions designed to maintain existing lichen and to enhance lichen regrowth where soil conditions may be suitable.
