The intent of the project was to create well spaced and efficiently growing stands of aspen. Three hundred forty-eight hectares were tended in the summer of 1999 to create well spaced trees; in addition to establishing a density management trial. The purpose of the trial was to evaluate the efficacy of fertilization on young aspen stands to promote thinning. An area of approximately 10 ha was selected for the treatment. A fertilizer blend of 18.9-21.2-8.4-3.7-0.1 (N-P-K-S-B) was applied using a fertilizer spreader and helicopter. In addition to a planned re-measurement schedule, the final report was submitted by Dave Kent entitled, “Final Report- Density Management 1999”, January 2000.
