ANC-01-001
Project Name:
Tending of Established Plantations in W1-29
Company Name:
ANC Timber Ltd.
Projected Cost:
$19,425.00

The purpose of this Project was to stand tend plantations of lodgepole pine and white spruce from deciduous competition in stands that were harvested before 1991. Stands were chosen that would increase the likelihood of the stands to attain a satisfactorily restocked (SR) status with one stand tending treatment.

The objective of this Project was to release 70 hectares of lodgepole pine and white spruce plantations from competitive vegetation.

The stand tending associated with this Project was completed during the filed season of 1995 with the treatment of the proposed 70 hectares. The results of the Project are summarized in a report titled "Tending of established plantations in W1-29 of ANC Timber Ltd FMA #8900026" authored by John Paul Macinnis

ANC-01-002
Project Name:
Development of an Intensive Silviculture Plan
Company Name:
ANC Timber Ltd.
Projected Cost:
$29,553.22

The purpose of this Project was to develop a remedial silviculture plan for "first pass" cutblocks in W1-29 on ANC Timber Ltd.'s FMA, which were harvested prior to 1991.

The objective was to ensure that the regeneration on these cutblocks meets the height and stocking standards required to permit a "second pass" harvest of adjacent mature timber.

A systematic survey approach was used to assess the cutblocks after an initial aerial photo assessment was completed to rank the blocks by level of expected treatment. A technical report entitled "Development of an intensive silviculture plan part 1" authored by John Paul Macinnis of ANC Timber Ltd. was completed at the Project conclusion that outlined site specific silvicultural prescriptions with accompanying maps for each cutblock.

ANC-01-004
Project Name:
Remedial Silviculture: Stand Tending in W1-29
Company Name:
ANC Timber Ltd.
Projected Cost:
$89,659.34

This Project was initiated to improve the forest resource through stand tending on various cutblocks in CTL W1-29 that were identified in FRIP Project ANC-01-005. These cutblocks had been harvested prior to 1991 and the stand tending was aimed a reducing shrub and deciduous competition, thus allowing the regenerating conifer to meet stocking and height standards earlier.

The Project comprised two different treatments for the regenerating coniferous stands, manual brushing was completed on 136.3 hectares and aerially applied herbicide was used for 97.1 hectares.

The results of this Project were compiled in the report prepared by John Paul Macinnis from ANC Timber Ltd titled "Remedial silviculture plan for W1-29 of ANC Timber Ltd. FMA 8900026”.

Project Name:
Development of an Intensive Silviculture Plan: Part 2
Company Name:
ANC Timber Ltd.
Projected Cost:
$26,795.43

The purpose of this Project was to complete the intensive silviculture plan initiated for W1-29 on ANC Timber Ltd.'s FMA under the FRIP Project ANC-01-002. FRIP Project ANC-01-002 completed intensive silviculture plans for 16 blocks while FRIP Project ANC-01-005 will complete the remaining 22 "first pass" cutblocks in W1-29.

The objective of this Project was to inspect the 22 cutblocks and validate the quality and quantity of existing regeneration and to generate prescriptions that include site specific treatment strategies for each cutblock.

Work for this Project was completed during the 1996 field season. The results of this Project and the individual block intensive silviculture plans are compiled in a report produced by Mackenzie Reforestation Ltd and ANC Timber Ltd titled"Development of an intensive silviculture plan Part 2".

Site Preparation and Planting on CTL W1 - L29
Company Name:
ANC Timber Ltd.
Projected Cost:
$136,731.02

The Project was undertaken to complete a portion of the site preparation and planting work recommended in the Remedial Silviculture Report for CTL W1-L29.

The completed silviculture treatments included 57.4 hectares mechanicallly site prepared with a excavator/mounder; and 90.6 hectares planted with no pre-planting site preparation. Planting quality was an average of 97.9%.

Project Name:
Forest Protection Assistance Program - 1998
Company Name:
ANC Timber Ltd.
Projected Cost:
$7,205.63

The Project's primary purpose was to augment the level of forest protection within the greater Whitecourt area and thereby minimize wildfire losses.

Objectives were to increase the level of protection, and improve liaison/communication with Alberta Lands & Forest's Forest Protection Division.

Project activities included the seasonal employment of a Forest Protection Co-ordinator, fire training, fire equipment inspection and maintenance, LFS & other Industry liaison, and wildfire suppression.

Results of this Project was an improved state-of-readiness for suppression of wildfire in the greater Whitecourt area.
